Veterans of American Legion Post 550 and VFW Post 1296 and their spouses and supporters came together Aug. 17 for the annual picnic. It was held jointly in the patio and parking lot of Bloomington’s Veterans Center, complete with a dunk tank.

Post 550 member Paul Hassing was department commander from mid-July 2023 to mid-July 2024 and presided over the Department Convention. Standing with him is Sharon Cross of Bemidji Unit 14, who served as department president during his term.

Unit 550 President Jody Hassing removed the white cap from the head of her husband and places a blue cap on his head. Paul achieved his Commander’s Project goal of $100,000 for the Minnesota Veterans Assistance Fund. He raised $140,000.

Bloomington Post 550 Baseball completed another season. The teams combined players from Jefferson and Kennedy. Here, the Div. I Senior team competes at the postseason substate tournament at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.

Bloomington Legion Baseball hosted the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Div. I Jr. State Tournament at Red Haddox Field, and Becker Post 193 (shown) surprised everyone and won the tournament. Fergus Falls Post 30 was runner-up.
