About Post 550

Wreaths3.jpg

Post 550 was founded in 1947 to serve local veterans returning from World War II, providing camaraderie and community programs. Initially, the post operated a club on Lyndale Avenue, which remained active until its closure in 2007.

Today, the post meets and operates out of the Bloomington Veterans Club, funding its community and charitable efforts primarily through licensed charitable gambling venues such as Sports Page Bar & Grill and Shantytown Grill

Under the name Earl C. Hill (a well known Legion Baseball Coach and groundskeeper of the Legion Baseball team fields) Bloomington Post 550, the organization has evolved into a key fixture in Bloomington for veteran outreach and youth programs.

With a mission rooted in support, education, and service, the post directs funds toward scholarship programs, sports teams, Scouting, school activities, and veterans-specific initiatives—decisions all made by members during monthly meetings.

Over the years, the post has gained recognition for high-profile donations: examples include funding youth baseball teams and local fireworks events, supporting programs like autism intervention at Children’s Minnesota Foundation, and contributing to veteran memorial and music projects at Fort Snelling Cemetery.

These efforts reflect the post’s enduring commitment to both veterans and the broader Bloomington community.
