Who We Are

The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 550 of the Bloomington American Legion in Minnesota is a proud group of individuals who honor the service and sacrifice of veterans by continuing their legacy of service. Open to the male descendants of veterans, the Sons work closely with Legionnaires and Auxiliary members to support community programs, veterans’ initiatives, and patriotic events that enrich the Bloomington area.

Known for their strong sense of camaraderie and dedication, the Sons of the American Legion in Bloomington are actively involved in a variety of efforts, from fundraising for local causes to assisting with Legion events and supporting youth and scholarship programs. Their contributions reflect a deep respect for those who served, as well as a commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

Monthly Meetings

The Bloomington Sons of the American Legion Squadron 550 meets once every month on the 2nd Monday at 7:00 PM. Our meetings are combined with the post. Enjoy a FREE meal at 6:30 PM prior to the meeting. If you are interested in joining, drop in and meet our members.

Who can Join

You must be one of the following:

  • The male descendant (including stepsons and adopted sons) of a current member of The American Legion.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who served from December 7, 1941 to today.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who died after his/her honorable discharge from any service from December 7, 1941 to today.

SAL Commander

James Mead is a two-time Chaplain of the Year for the 10th District. He has been an American Legion member for 48 years. He is a past vice commander and past Americanism chairman for the 10th District.

He served as Post 550 adjutant 2001-04 and commander 2004-06. He is presently in his eighth year as post chaplain. He has participated in the Bloomington Honor Guard for more than 30 years.

 

He has served as commander and membership director of Squadron 550 for six years. He also is a member of 40&8 Voiture 1281.
